As an architect Billings is best known for his restorations of Edinburgh Castle, the Douglas Room in Stirling Castle, Gosford House, Haddingtonshire, for the Earl of Wemyss, Hanbury Hall, Worcester, Crosby-upon-Eden Church, Cumberland, and Kemble House, Wiltshire.
