Offered herewith is a printed copy of a poem welcoming Lord Stanley to Hamilton, presumably by Murray.

"I have given instruction to my broker at St. George to send me the Broughton acct books that I may ascertain the exact amount collected for you & which sum I shall forward to your address. "Mrs. Rogers has disposed of her claims amounting to upwards of $10,000 to Mr. Rattray of Quebec for the sum of $3,500 not withstanding the great difficulty of collecting the sums due to Mr. Hall & his children. I shall be prepared to purchace [sic] at the same rate in the month of June. Dated June 17, 1929. one-page folio, Quisling's certification attached. (numerous horizontal folds; documents stapled in upper left-hand corner). Document signed by the Norwegian Fascist Politician and Collaborationist whose name became synonymous with 'traitor' in the second world war. Affidavit of Maxim Petrovich Muzika of the village of Lastovets, Kamenetsky rayon, Kamenetsky Okrug declaring that he has not received the money coming to him from the Canadian War Department through Mr. Weldie in the amount of $339.49. Signed by Musika, with seals and authorized signatures of officials of the Village Council of Lastovets, officials of the People's Commissariat of the Interior of the Ukrainian S.S.R., and officials of the People's Commissariat for Foreign Affairs, Moscow. Quisling has signed to the certify the last two signatures in his capacity as member of the Norwegian Legation at Moscow, with seal. Also included is a one-page English translation, signed by D.H.Dubrowsky, Representative of the Russian Red Cross Societies (with carbon copy). In Moscow Quisling was also responsible for managing British diplomatic affairs, for which services he was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire by King George V, although this honour was later rescinded. He returned to Norway in 1929, serving as Minister of Defence during the governments of Peder Kolstad and Jens Hundseid, before founding the Norwegian fascist party, Nasjonal Samling, in 1933. On April 9, 1940, he seized power in a Nazi-backed coup-d'état during the German invasion of Norway. After the war Quisling was charged and convicted of embezzlement, murder and high treason, and executed by firing squad on October 24, 1945. The term quisling is still used as a synonym for traitor or collaborationist.

SHOVELL, Sir Clowdisley [1650-1707] [Admiral of the Fleet (1705)]. Printed and Manuscript Document regarding the payment to Shovell of twenty-five pounds, ten shillings and 4 1/2 pence "...for securing certain Recompences and Advantages in the said Act mentioned to such Persons as shall voluntarily advance the Sum of [Four?] Hundred Thousand Pounds towards carrying on a Vigorous War against France...". Signed by Shovell and Witness Tho Colby, dated November 20, 1706. Shovell spent many years (1674-88) fighting against the Barbary pirates in the Mediterranean (he was awarded a gold medal by King Charles I for one raid), and was engaged in many of the important battles of the late 17th and early 18th centuries, establishing himself as a popular hero, being knighted and rising steadily in the naval ranks. Most notably he contributed to the English victory at La Hogue in 1692, being the first to break through the enemy's line aboard HMS Prince, and to the capture of Gibraltar in 1704. In 1705 he became Admiral of the Fleet and the following year he was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the British fleets. Shovell drowned in 1707 when his ship was wrecked near the Isles of Scilly, although it was speculated that he had reached shore but was murdered by a woman for his emerald ring. His body, recovered and embalmed by order of Queen Anne, was carried in state to London to great fanfare and interred at Westminster Abbey, where his large marble monument was sculpted by Grinling Gibbons.

Manuscript Letter, Signed, dated Gibraltar, December 18, 1804 and addressed to Captain Robinson, HMS Swiftsure. Trigg requests that Robinson give the order to Captain Boyle of HMS Seahorse to convey Trigge back to England where he is to take up his new appointment as the Lieutenant Governor of Chelsea Hospital. He had been prevented from returning sooner on board HMS Triumph: "the Fever which broke out in the Garrison, and consequent death of Major General Barnett, rendered it necessary that I should remain till the arrival of a General Officer to take 'the command'. Lieutenant General Fox having arrived with convoy, I am anxious to return to England as soon as possible...". Trigge fought during the Seven Years' War and commanded the 12th Regiment of Foot during the Great Siege of Gibraltar. He appeared in the commemorative painting of the siege executed by George Carter for the City of London. As Commander-in-Chief in the West Indies he was responsible for the capture of Surinam (1799), St. Martin, St. Bartholomew, St. Thomas, St. John, and St. Croix, for which actions he was made a Knight of the Bath. He was briefly active Lieutenant-Governor of Gibraltar following the departure of the unpopular Governor, Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and Strathearn who had been ordered to restore discipline among the drunken troops but whose efforts provoked a mutiny; one of Trigge's first acts was to countermand 35 of the 169 new regulations the Prince had introduced.

Thanking the addressee for his friendly exertions in undertaking to have made by Verhelfs (?) a copper-engraving of a portrait of Cardinal Ximenes and sending him the drawing of Ximenes by Kraus which is to serve as the basis for the engraving. Wieland insists he must have the proof plate by the end of March and that it must furnish 2500 impressions. He also requests that Mann greet Schwan and his Madonna and beg him to oblige him by despatching two stitched copies of Rosamund on his account to Caspar Bölling in Frankfurt and Peter Much in Amsterdam. He also writes with regards to communications with Savioli.
