The author served as physician to a Polish nobleman, a post he obtained through the influence of Benjamin Travers, and travelled extensively with him for nine years in France, Austria, Poland, and Russia. He left his post at Odessa and went on to St. Petersburg, where he began in private practice and became physician to the British Embassy. In 1831 he was given charge of a district during the cholera epidemic. After a brief stay in England, Lefevre returned to Russia, where he was knighted by patent as a reward for his services to the embassy. His work also includes an account of his visit to the Château de Pau, undertaken for health reasons in 1819. The hand-coloured plates depict the Château de Pau, Ice Hills at the Carnival in St. Petersburg, and the mines of Dannemora. Despite the extensive Russian content the book is not listed in Nerhood.
