In 1882 the American journalist visited St. Petersburg and Moscow, and travelled extensively in Siberia: Tobolsk, Tomsk, Krasnoiarsk, Yeniseisk, Irkutsk, Kara, Vladivostock, Yakutsk, &c. He comments on the Tsar, social and political life, Nihilism, mining, the Siberian exile system, the indigenous peoples of Siberia, and European and American exploration in the Russian arctic. cfSmith B161.
