The author was a poet, a barrister of Lincoln's Inn, and a commissioner for auditing public accounts. Holdsworth, in his 'History of the English Law' (Vol. XIII, pp. 460ff.) devotes four pages to this work, one of the best and most popular examples of the humorous and satirical literature arising from the law of procedure and pleading.
