Forms a large map of Argentina, Uruguay, Chile with inset maps of Martin Garcia Island, Buenos Aires and the Meteorological Station on Laurie Island.

The map provides extension information on the Russian discoveries in the North Pacific, including the tracks of Shestakov's voyage to Kamchatka and Bering and Chirikov's 1741 expedition to the northwest coast of America. First issued in 1800 by Smyth and subsequently revised by Wyld, this map of Upper Canada contains detailed information on the counties, districts, townships, transportation systems, place-names and northern Ontario ('Great Tract of Wilderness') &c. It also includes portions of Quebec, Michigan Territory, New York, Pennsylvania. The 1838 issue includes additional rivers, lakes, place-names, roads and a railway from London to Hamilton. 12 x 16 inches (30.4 x 40.7 cm). original outline & cartouche colour (light browning to centre fold). Zatta's map of the Americas shows the most recent geographical discoveries in the South Pacific, including Cook's explorations. The mapping of the northwest coast of America is almost entirely based on De Fonte's fictitious account of his discoveries. A northwest passage is shown leading from Michinipi to the Straits of Anian via the Lake de Fonte.

12 1/2" x 16 1/4" (31.7 x 41.6 cm). original colour (margins stained, small areas of paper weakness - backed). Zatta's map of the northwest shows the influence of the 1752 Delisle/Buache Carte Des Nouvelles Decouvertes, including Da Fonte's elaborate system of inland seas and straits and a northwest passage. He shows Quivira and 'Fou-Sang', a colony the Chinese reputedly established on the northwest coast. The map is curiously decorated with illustrations of an elephant, ostrich and rhinoceros.
